Ekelund began life in the region of Mark, Sweden in the early decades of the seventeenth century. It was a woman, Marta Ingesmarsdotter, who started the company! Marta's technical skills, eye for good design, and ability to market her product created a solid foundation which enabled her company to grow and prosper. The mill has stayed in one family since Marta's time, ensuring the dedication to quality so many European companies share. Ekelund is now in the sure hands of Christer and Per Ekelund, the eigth-and-ninth generation heirs of Marta Ingesmarsdotter.
As with all European mills of distinction, Ekelund fabrics have their own unique feel or "signature." Ekelund sells their superlative products all over the world. All items are machine-washable. Ekelund's kitchen handtowels (100% cotton) are amazingly cute! The dishcloths are made of cotton (50%) and bamboo (50%), which has natural anti-bacterial properties, keeping these cloths fresher than ordinary types. Both pieces make perfect gifts!
