Tissage Moutet

Catherine Moutet's boutique fabric company is unique even for France. Based in the Basque section of southwest France in the town of Orthez, the original, faimly-owned mill focused on traditional Basque striped cottons. Catherine was married to the owner, and after they split up, she tried to buy the mill. Turned down by stuffy French bankers, she sold her jewelry to buy the mill! Catherine worked hard to contract some of France's best designers to create a new look for Moutet.

Now Tissage Moutet takes pride in continuing to weave historical Basque fabrics while offering jazzy contemporary designs as well. As with all outstanding European weavers , Moutet's fabrics have their own unique feel and coloring - so it's easy to recognize a Moutet tablecloth, apron or dishtowel. ("tissage" means "weaving")
